Yesterday some data from Nielsen Media was posted far and wide touting how little people used their Wii followed closely by the dismal usage time for the PS3. Turns out the released data wasn't quite correct. In research we call this being wrong. It's really every research firms worst nightmare and it's bad enough when it happens on a private report but when it's globally released data screamed from rooftops you just have to believe someone is losing a job over this.
The new, corrected, data shows that the PS3 is played a lot more than first suggested.
Here is the original graph:

This shows the PS3 around 3% usage which means people choose to do something else 97% of the time they could be playing it. Yikes, that is pretty awful; good thing it's wrong.
The updated graph below shows the true number to be 9% which is much better than 3. It still lags far behind the Wii and the Xbox 360 though so this isn't the happiest news ever.

The graph is really enlightening and you can see why Sony REALLY dropped the price of the PS2; it looks like the Wii is taking users right from the PS2.
